  • Sentenced:
An Egyptian court has sentenced ex-President Hosni Mubarak to life in prison for complicity in the killing of protesters during last year's uprising. [...]

In his preamble, Judge Ahmed Refaat insisted the 10-month trial had been a fair one.

He spoke of the Mubarak era as "30 years of darkness" and praised what he called "the sons of the nation who rose up peacefully for freedom and justice".

  • BREAKING: The president slept in his own bed last night!
President Obama is finally getting his wish: some peace and quiet at his old Chicago home.

In the Windy City Friday for three fundraisers, Obama will spend the night at his South Side house.

"It is good to be back home, I am sleeping in my bed tonight," Obama told supporters at one fundraiser. "I'm going to go to my kitchen, I might cook something. It's good to be home."

  • Newt Gingrich, the dude who survived in the Republican primary as long as he did solely because of the bazillions of dollars spent by the pro-Newt Super PAC Winning Our Future, suddenly doesn't like Super PACs:
Newt Gingrich, whose quest for the Republican presidential nomination was kept on life support for months by a super-PAC, said in a television interview today that super-PACs are bad for politics.

The onslaught from Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, their super-PACs, and conservative and liberal groups is “going to be a mess, and people are going to be sick of it, and it’s really unfortunate,” Gingrich said in an interview on  MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “It’s not the way a great nation should govern itself.”

  • Protip: If you produce a four-minute anti-Obama propaganda "news" film for Fox News, even CNN won't hire you.
  • The Romneys might not consider themselves wealthy, but:
Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney shed dozens of stocks and holdings in various foreign companies in the last 10 months, beefing up his cash reserves while maintaining an overall fortune as high as $250 million, according to personal financial disclosures he filed Friday.

The disclosure - required of presidential candidates - showed that the presumptive GOP nominee’s net worth has not changed greatly since last September’s financial disclosure, when he reported his assets were worth between $190 million and $250 million.

  • Republicans think Romney's real problem is that he isn't a big enough dick:
Even as Mr. Romney steps up his attacks on the Obama administration, his measured portrayal of the president himself — his He’s-a-Nice-Guy-But approach — has stirred some concerns among fellow Republicans who are eager, after nearly four years of an Obama administration, to see the president demonized.

In 2008, many conservatives felt that John McCain lost the election in part by refusing to attack Mr. Obama viciously enough, and echoes of that sentiment are creeping up again, on talk radio, in the blogosphere and among those turning out at Mr. Romney’s rallies.

  • Best Please Excuse So-and-So From Class note ever:
On official presidential stationery, the President scribbled this note—
    Mr. Ackerson—

Please Excuse Tyler … he was with me!

    Barack Obama
